Music teachers who are interested in using StageRight
Exams(TM) should begin by viewing
the applicable Syllabus from the Syllabi
page. Everything is explained in the General Info section.
Familiarize yourself with the Exam Procedures, Repertoire Guidelines
and Technical Test Guidelines found in the syllabus. If anything
is unclear, feel free to contact us.
Please ask yourself if you are qualified to teach this program.
The best place to start is in the syllabus itself: if you are
able to pass the Grade 8 repertoire exam, as well as the Grade
7 technical tests, you should have no trouble preparing your
students for their own exams (in the earlier grades). It is
acceptable for a musician to be preparing for a Grade 7 or 8
exam while simultaneously teaching students in a Grade 1 or
2 level. Although no rules are in place to restrict a teacher
from teaching StageRight Exams(TM),
it behooves you to experience a few exams yourself in order
to best prepare your students for their own exams.
And please, if you are not a gigging musician, do not presume
to prepare your students for these exams. At our own music schools,
no teacher is hired unless he/she performs on a semi regular
basis (smoky coffee houses, church on Sunday, festival stages
– whatever).
To get your students interested, and to get the parents involved,
download the one-page explanatory document, “StageRight
Exams: the Pop Music Syllabus”, in PDF
format.
